Application included in the software package standard Pocket PC operating system from Microsoft. Through the so-called ClearType technology, the Reader can read in comfort text documents such as e-books. It is more useful on a Pocket PC, where it has been built into the ROM since Windows CE 3.0. Although some of the latest Windows Mobile Devices have not been bundled with it, it is still available to download for the Pocket PC.

Third-party companies provide dictionaries that expand the benefits of Microsoft Reader. Features included Pan and zoom capabilities for embedded graphics, Screen rotation capability between portrait and landscape modes for more natural, comfortable reading. Microsoft Reader for Pocket PC (version 2.4.1) is compatible with:

•  Windows Mobile  2003 based Pocket PC and Phone Edition devices.
•  Windows Mobile 2003, Second Edition based Pocket PC and Phone Edition devices.
•  Windows Mobile 5.0 based Pocket PC and Phone Edition devices.
•  Windows Mobile 6.0 based Pocket PC and Phone Edition devices.
•  It is not compatible with Windows Mobile-based Smartphone devices.
